Fifty years ago, Vermont Senator George Aiken commented, "You know, this is such beautiful country up here, it should be called the Northeast Kingdom." The name stuck, and since that time, not all that much in the Northeast Kingdom has changed. Three counties, Caledonia, Essex and Orleans, make up the Kingdom, with its rolling hills, historic villages, rivers, lakes, mountains and forests. Internationally recognized artist Meryl Lebowitz has lived and painted in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom for the past 25 years. She now divides her time between her studios in Burlington and Kirby, Vermont. Each scene depicted in this series is within walking distance of Lebowitz's studio. The original paintings are all oil on paper, 11"x14".
