All of Elissa's books are completely handcrafted using traditional bookbinding techniques and all materials are acid-free. The bindings are primarily non-adhesive and her current repertoire of bindings includes: Japanese stab binding, Coptic binding and accordion binding.
Elissa has been making books since 1994. It all started when she was in graduate school studying Art Therapy and working part-time at Paper Source, a store in Cambridge, MA. It was there that she first learned about paper and bookbinding, through attending and assisting with different workshops. The craft had a great effect on her and ending up writing her graduate thesis on using bookbinding in the Expressive Therapies. Since moving to Vermont, Elissa has been primarily self-taught by independent learning and experimentation.
