JEWELRY Laura Lacroix

Jewelry

For many years, Laura has been a watercolor artist. During the past three years, she has become passionately involved with making beaded jewelry. Her involvement began by chance. She was in a bead store in a small town in northern Vermont and she happened to see strung necklaces which really appealed to her. Convinced that she could make strung necklaces, she bought some beads and thread and off she went.

Laura bought every available book on beading and tried a variety of techniques, settling on Peyote stitch. She also found out that beads could be made through a process called lampworking. Determined to learn how to make these beautiful beads, she took one lessen from a bead maker in Stowe, built a studio, bought all the lampworking equipment, read all the books, and watched all videos on lampworking. Teaching herself to make lampworking beads has been trilling and frustrating for her.

"Working with beads is similar to painting for me; it satisfies my ongoing love of working with color, texture and detail."
