FIBER ART Donna Wilson

Felted Hats

Donna Wilson has been knitting since she was a young girl. Her grandmother taught her mother, her mother taught Donna, and Donna has taught her own daughters. The materials that go into the yarn for Donna’s hats all come from Vermont. The wool is from her own sheep, and the mohair originates from a flock of Vermont Angora goats.

“What I like most about my felted work is the way that it integrates with our farming lifestyle. It allows me to use a resource that we produce, and fashion it into a useful and beautiful product. Crafting hats out of wool gives me a break from the more active and physically demanding aspects of farming. It is usually a quiet, reflective time.”
