FINE ART David Goodrich
Silkscreen Prints from Ink Drawings
"I approach my artwork as if I were the drawing equivalent of a photojournalist – after choosing a subject, I attempt to “document” it as accurately as possible. Not quick and economical, like a courtroom artist, but slowly, deliberately with utmost attention to every detail".
David uses a unique combination of three
mediums: starting with an India ink drawing, followed by the silkscreen ink
print, and then watercolor paint. He uses a technical drawing pen, with does
not allow much variation in the thickness of the line as traditional quill pens
do, to create his Indian ink drawings. He then makes a silkscreen from the
finished drawing, using a photo-emulsion coating to transfer the image to the
screen’s surface. He then makes prints by forcing a gelatinous ink through the
line openings in the screen surface with a squeegee.
David has been drawing and screen printing Vermont
subjects for about 11 years and is primarily self-taught. He has received his
B.A. with a major in Geology and a minor in Art from Hamilton College and his
M.A. in French from Middlebury College. He has worked as a Conservation
Technician, French teacher, and Peace Corps volunteer. David has shown his work
at exhibitions across Vermont and has a long-term goal of being a vendor at
Folk and Bluegrass festivals.
