FURNITURE Christian Brown Design
Woodworking
" I come from a long line of craftsmen; my great grandfather was an architect in Minneapolis, my brother, father, uncles and grandfathers have been and continue to be avid woodworkers. After getting a bachelor’s degree from Lehigh University, I apprenticed to a furniture maker for two years and then went to graduate school where I received a master’s degree from Harvard University in 1991. Whether designing a small piece of furniture or an entire building in my rural Vermont studio, I focus not only on the overall composition, but also on the details of connections and joinery. I use eco-conscious materials, natural light and energy efficient construction methods wherever possible. I strive for design that is both functional and inspiring, whatever the scale."
