Irene Lederer LaCroix

I have had a life-long interest in clay. I love working with clay and shaping it into beautiful forms that are pleasing to look at and to hold. The bold patterns and colors are spontaneous and playful, as are the effects of the smoke and flame.

Irene has been developing her firing and decorating techniques for more than 20 years at her studio in Jericho, Vermont.

The crafts of many cultures have inspired Irene to decorate simple, traditional forms in a very contemporary manner.
Her direction in clay has been focused on raku fired pottery, tiles, and sculpture. This process enables her to combine her love of drawing and painting on the ceramic surface, yet allows for spontaneity in the finish with the raku process. The recent addition of saggar firing provides unusual and exciting effects cause by the volatile atmosphere inside the clay container.
