Spring Blooms Pastel Workshop
Instructor: Robert Carsten
Discover what "flower power" is all about in this delightful workshop designed to expand your use of color in pastel. Exploring both classical and contemporary approaches, Robert will demonstrate methods and materials used to create stunning florals and gardenscapes. Learn about dynamic composition and paint gorgeous, still life arrangements; create powerful, enlarged- scale investigations into form, texture and color; enjoy the delights of painting a gardenscape. You will see why the enduring subject of flowers has lured many of the great artists of the past. All levels welcome. Limit 10

Spring Light: Vermont Townscape in Oil

The Vermont landscape as it changes from Spring to Summer is a place of vibrant beauty. The light and colors are at their most exuberant. The townscape around Frog Hollow provides fantastic opportunities to build exciting paintings. In this lively class we'll explore how and why some great paintings succeed, and we'll put those lessons to work as we paint intensively around the Frog Hollow facility. Each day, we will work several canvases reflecting the light around us, concentrating on the close observation and visual dynamics that go into making a painting successful. This class will encourage visual excitement and expansion of perceptual understanding. Bring your sense of hard work and big fun.

Silk Screen Workshop

Instructor: Timothy Cohalan
Screen Printing is a fun and easy way to make your own cards, posters, even t-shirts. The first half of this day long workshop will be dedicated to an overview of the basics of screen printing, such as how to make a stencil, and how to use drawing fluid and screen filler. There will be a half hour lunch break and then the afternoon will be an opportunity to put theory into practice. Students should come to class with a few simple images or ideas to be turned into stencils. Oil based inks will be used so students should wear painting clothes.

Basic Fused Glass

Learn the fundamentals of glass fusing. Cut and arrange beautiful colored glass to create a sun catcher, pendant, earrings or other jewelry. Teens welcome.

Glass Fusing 2
By working with working with frit, powders, stringers and molds to create a small dish, plate or glass painting students will take their next steps in glass fusion. These elements may also be used to create beautiful jewelry. Teens welcome.

Collage Workshop
Instructor: Michael Von Loebenstein
In this two day class students will learn exciting, innovative ways to apply different traditional and non traditional surface enriching mediums and collage techniques to various supports in order to achieve an organic blend. Once a visual theme is established, students will use a wide range of colored and textured materials including: newspaper imagery, magazines, photocopies, photographs, posters, packing materials, found objects, textiles, beads, sand, etc. Color theory and the elements of design will be discussed. Most of the supplies and tools will be available from the instructor. A list of materials to bring will be available at registration. Limit 10

Mask Making Workshop

Each participant will create his or her own clay mold and use paper mache to create an original mask. Each mask will be painted and made ready for wearing. All materials will be provided by instructor.

Active Surfaces Workshop

Instructor: Ronan Peterson
This hands-on workshop is premised on the concept of 'more is more', in regards to activating the ceramic surface. Demonstrations will involve throwing utilitarian vessel forms on the wheel, with some discussion and demonstration of altering while the vessel is freshly thrown. Demonstrations will include slips, underglazes, terra sigallattas, as well as carving and texturing techniques to enhance leatherhard and bone dry surfaces. Students will learn glazing techniques, which will include glaze layering, patinas and motivating different surface interactions. Students should have some leatherhard and bisque objects for trying some of the demonstrated techniques. Students will also have a chance to make vessels in the first part of the workshop.
