Jack Morris is a 22 year old self-taught artist and photographer from Stowe, Vermont. Morris’s unrealized interest in photography from a young age had him frequently using his phone to capture the small details and vast landscapes of his home state. After a trip to Chile in 2019, he was inspired to pursue photography as a full time career, and once back in the states, he bought his first real camera, a Sony a7iii. Having very limited prior experience with professional cameras, and being even less knowledgeable of photography’s history as an art, Morris’s journey of learning through trial and error led him to discover his own styles and interests as an artist. Today, his passion for capturing the world in true-to-life and abstract perspectives drives his artistic journey further into an unrestricted range of genres and subject matter, allowing for endless opportunity and freedom as a creative. Jack books a variety of freelance work, where he utilizes both analog and digital formats, but shoots primarily with his vintage Hasselblad 500C/M for his artistic pursuits. He develops and digitizes all of his own film and is in the process of creating a fully equipped darkroom to create his prints by hand. 

At the age of 16, Jack was diagnosed with a degenerative heart condition. As he had been previously dedicated to becoming a professional athlete, the devastating news called for many lifestyle changes and ultimately uprooted everything he expected his life to be. In the years following his diagnosis, Jack was left feeling uninspired from a lack of true passion and hopeless as the inevitability of his heart failing at a young age caused constant uncertainty in his life. After realizing his love for photography, the idea of being able to create art regardless of the condition of his health helped Jack rediscover his passion for living. In November of 2022, Jack underwent a life changing open heart surgery that alleviated many of the symptoms he had been experiencing on a day-to-day basis for years. 

Jack is exhibiting in two of Vermont's premier juried art galleries, Frog Hollow Gallery in Burlington, VT, and Artisans Gallery in Waitsfield, VT.
