EMERGENCE (COMING TO LIGHT)

By Carol MacDonald

September 1st - September 28th

Opening Reception : Saturday, September 2nd 4pm - 6pm

Frog Hollow’s upcoming show Emergence (Coming to Light), a series of new monotypes by Carol MacDonald, transports the viewer to an altered world where the familiar is turned slightly upside down. Created in the aftermath of the pandemic the pieces interact with each other to exemplify the multifaceted nature of this abstract dreamscape and the struggle to understand a modified world. The finished works demonstrate an amalgamation of additive and subtractive processes. The ghost of a vibrant form in one piece appears in a fainter capacity in another. Another work features stitches sewn into the final print. The body of work interacts with itself to show the viewer an almost recognizable image that then disappears behind a veil of other information. The show will run through the month of September.

Carol MacDonald moved to Vermont in 1974 to become the art director for a small weekly newspaper and pursue her art making practice. Her passion for printmaking began in 1976 with a summer intensive at the Lake Placid School of Art. In her Colchester printmaking studio, Carol teaches ongoing Monoprint workshops working with artists and students. She has exhibited her work regionally and internationally since 1980 and most recently was invited to participate in the 11th Douro International Print Biennial in Portugal which is taking place now. MacDonald currently serves on the boards of the Monotype Guild of New England and Frog Hollow.
